James Joyce fans – Celebrate Bloomsday and “Ulysses” at Desperate Literature

Join the guys at Desperate Literature (our favorite bookshop in Madrid) for Bloomsday – the day when Joyce fans gather to celebrate “Ulysses.” At Desperate Literature, they’ll be reading from the book, singing songs and drinking to the health of dear James himself. For old hands and Bloomsday newbies alike, there’ll be enough liquid courage to tempt even the faint of heart, and if we’re feeling very bold, we can join itinerant Irishman, Davy Lyons, in some Joyce-era folk tunes.

They’ll also be having a small presentation of artwork from Joyce illustrator, Stephen Crowe, and when Aeolus has finally left our lungs, Davy will round the evening with a concert.

How could you miss this?

TEDx Youth Madrid: Watch under 20 year olds talk about their passions at Caixa Forum

Madrid has a very active TEDx community. Every year, the city holds a major TEDx Madrid event for up to 600 people. Every month, free TEDx salons are held at La Casa Encendida where they screen past TED talks followed by open audience discussion. And throughout the year, local neighborhoods host their very own talks, such as TEDx Cibeles and even TEDx Gran Vía.

We at Naked Madrid find our favorite to be TEDxYouth Madrid, which is taking place this Sunday at 10:00am at Caixa Forum. This annual event invites young speakers (under 20) to get up on stage and speak about their passions, ambitions and projects (in Spanish). It is a truly inspiring event.

You must reserve your free ticket here. If the space fills up, you’ll also have the opportunity to watch the live streaming.
